As the Major League Baseball (MLB) offseason rolls on, teams are still actively trying to get their hands on some big names. One team that has dominated the market this offseason has been the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have not been shy of splashing the cash.

The National League side shocked the world when they announced the acquirement of Shohei Ohtani. This was followed by mega deals with Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Teoscar Hernandez. Mookie Betts, the star hitter of the team has now come into their defence.

Former MLB star Alex Rodriguez himself crticized this move. He has feared that this was a poor deal for baseball which could harm the future of the sport. Betts, who is a valuable member of the team has now defended them and blasted the critics.

Speaking with AM 570 L.A. Sports, the former American League MVP would ask what do the others want from them.

I don’t know what you want us to do. When you’re blessed with an ability, why would you not use that?… Y’all tell us what you want us to do. You want us to not try to win? Well, that’s the whole point of the game, right?

While the debate regarding the hot pursuit of talent by the Dodgers continue, there is no denying off the fact that they have transformed the team into an All-Star sqaud. The likes of Ohtani, Yamamoto, Glasnow and Hernandez joins Betts and Freddie Freeman as few stars to lookout for next season.

They will now aim for a better performance next season. Despite winning the division with a 100-62 record, the team slipped up in the postseason and were swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Division Series (NLDS). This will be something they would be hoping to improve in the upcoming 2024 season.
