Markus Lynn Betts a.k.a. Mookie Bets, the right fielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball, suffered a blow on Saturday. Manager Dave Roberts announced that the star outfielder went on the 10-day injured list with a cracked right rib.

The injury sustained by Mookie Betts was in an outfield collision with centre fielder Cody Bellinger during the Dodgers’ 4-1 win over the Angels on Wednesday. Dave Roberts and Mookie Betts both expressed hopefulness that the star outfielder will be able to return in about two weeks, but they’ll get a better idea once they see how Mookie Betts progresses over the next few days.

“It’s certainly a big blow for all of us,” Manager Dave Roberts said. “But having the information and knowing what it is, at least there’s solace in that and hopefully we’ll get him back sooner than later.”

On Friday, Mookie Betts did have an X-Ray which did not reveal any injury, although he was obliterated from the line-up. The 29-year-old made it to the line-up on Saturday, but there was a strike off the line-up once again. After Betts complained of residual soreness, the Dodgers decided to have the outfielder go through an MRI, which revealed the cracked right rib.

“I thought it was just a bruise,” Mookie Betts said on Sunday. “As I was preparing for the game, it just got a little worse and a little worse. So that’s when I knew I needed to go get it checked out. When nothing was broken on the X-rays, that was encouraging and my mind was fixed on trying to play no matter what.”

Dave Roberts said that the team is leaning toward adding a right-handed bat to try to make up for Mookie Betts’ production. Roberts added that the team is also looking at external options.

“I think there’s going to be some opportunity for some guys,” Roberts said. “The guys we’ve lost, we’re a better ballclub when they’re with us and active and playing, but we still have a lot of talent in the room. … Guys have got to kind of seize the opportunity.”
