There is always something special when a former fan favorite returns to their former hunting grounds. Mookie Betts was a well-adored figure among the Boston Red Sox faithful. In his four years in Boston, he won the World Series, made four successive All-Star appearances, and won the AL MVP award. On Friday night, he marked his return to the Fenway Park to for the first time to a major ovation since leaving the franchise.

Betts was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for several players during the preseason of 2019. Since then he has gone on to enjoy similar success with the LA-based franchise and is a well-loved personality among their faithful as well. The Red Sox fans would give him thunderous applause as he stepped up the plate for the first time as an opposing player.

Alex Verdugo was among the players who were traded by the Dodgers to acquire the services of Betts. He along with manager Alex Cora were also spotted cheering on. However, there was one player who had the biggest grin, Rafael Devers. The youngster could be spotted smiling widely as one of the heroes of the Red Sox returned to the ballpark.

Twitter reacts as Mookie Betts returns to Boston for the first time since 2019

Mookie Betts has been claimed by many to be one of the most underrated players of this era. He might not have a massive fan following, but that does not mean Betts is not one of the greats. He has produced great numbers for both the Boston Red Sox and LA Dodgers in multiple seasons and has played a huge part in their recent success.

After would later keep his emotions aside and deliver another great contribution. He would go 1-for-4 but manage an important double which later helped the team score two runs. The Dodgers would come back from 3-0 down and win the game 7-4. The comeback was kicked off by Betts and eventually saw the Dodgers pull up another victory. Here are some reactions to his return.

Betts is having another strong season. He is currently batting with an average of .309 with 34 home runs and 89 runs chased in. This has helped him put a mark on the NL MVP award candidacy.

If he does manage to pick up the award, he will become the second player after Frank Robinson to win both the AL and NL MVP award. There is still around a month or more action left to be played and Betts would be hoping he can continue with his high form.
