Every year the trade deadline brings lots of excitement and enthusiasm among the fans. They are eagerly stuck to their screens to receive news about any potential transfers for their team. This year has not produced positive results for the NY Mets. The team was struggling to perform with their two aces and they have now traded away both of them.
Justin Verlander arrived in NY with huge expectations on their shoulders. The two-time world series winner joined the Mets in one of the record deals for a pitcher. He was expected to help the team finally win it all and form a formidable partnership with fellow veteran Max Scherzer. However, things did not work out well for both and have now departed from the team.
There was no secret that the Mets were struggling. Both Verlander and Scherzer had admitted that the team is not living up to it’s potential. After last week’s poor outing, the Mets traded away their closer David Robertson. This led to Scherzer becoming uncomfortable and asked to meet the front office. He has now joined the Texas Rangers.
Verlander probably had a meeting with the bosses and knew his time was up with the team. In his final start for the Mets, Verlander managed to pick up his 250th career win and thanked the fans for their support. The 40-year-old is now back on the Astros. For them, it turned out to be a great day, as they not only got him back but saw Framber Valdez throw a no-hitter.
Twitter reacts as Justin Verlander returns to Houston Astros

It is always a pleasure sight to see one of the former heroes of a team return. Despite his struggles this year, Verlander is one of the greats to ever play the game. Following his move from the Detroit Tigers, he quickly established himself as one of the crowd favorites at Minute Maid Park. He also played a huge part in their two World Series triumphs.
To acquire his service back, the Astros gave up two minor-leaguers Drew Gilbert and Ryan Crawford. The former is the top-ranked prospect in the Astros‘ farming system. Twitter was full of joy. Some celebrated his return while some brutally trolled the Mets for giving away the ace, after signing him this year. Here are a few reactions regarding this trade development.
His stat line for the Mets read as 6-5 wins/loss. Verlander gave up runs through at a rate of 3.15 ERA in his sixteen starts. He had a great month of July though, winning four games and losing just one. When will Verlander make his first start for the Astros this season is something to look forward to. This signing has certainly boosted the chances of the Astros going back-to-back as their rotation gets stronger.
