A day after tensions were boiled over and accusations were waved over cheating, New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German was ejected from the game on Tuesday. The southpaw was found to be using sticky substances during a check and was removed from the game by the umpires. This is not the first time he has been accused of using such things.

A week ago in a game against the Minnesota Twins, German was found using rosin. He was however allowed to continue the game, a decision which sparked controversy. A few days later, NY Mets pitcher, Max Scherzer was ejected and handed a 10-game suspension for the usage of same. German is now likely to face the same result.

German started the game in pretty dominating fashion, retiring the first nine batters he faced. Before taking to the mound for the fourth inning, he was called by the umpires for an inspection. Umpire James Hoye would later describe the situation as the “stickiest hand” he ever felt in his career as an official.

The instant I looked at his hand, it was extremely shiny and extremely sticky. It is the stickiest hand I ever felt. My fingers had a hard time coming off his palm,” Hoye later told the media about it.

If there is one thing any professional player does not want in his resume, is the accusation of cheating. On April 15, in a game against the Minnesota Twins, German was accused of cheating.

The umpires later ordered him to wash his hands and he was allowed to continue. He was quick to dismiss the talks of cheating and accusation labeled him once again.

It was definitely just the rosin bag. It was sweat and the rosin bag. I don’t need any extra help to grab the baseball,” he said in his innocence through a translator. “I’ve got to apologize to my teammates and my team. I am putting them in a tough position right now,” he added. His 10-game suspension could prove to be a major point in the Yankees’ season.

His removal at the end did not prove to be costly as the Yankees won a crucial game 6-3. The tensions between the two have always been high and their recent meetings have escalated that.

A brutal showdown between Gerrit Cole and Alek Manoah, Vlad Guerrero Jr’s statement on never playing for the Yankees, and Judge’s mysterious batting stance on Monday have added more fire to this AL East rivalry.
