After speculations emerged regarding a shocking move to the Bronx, the New York Yankees on Thursday signed free agent Marcus Stroman on a two-year deal. The two-time All-Star now becomes the latest player to represent both the New York teams.

Stroman previously appeared for the New York Mets in 2019 following his trade from the Toronto Blue Jays. During this move, current Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman fired shots at him. This led to the pitcher getting back at him, leading to hatred among Yankees fans.

The Yankee fanbase now has to deal with him again. As per reports from ESPN, the 32-year-old pitcher has agreed on a two-year deal worth $37 million. The southpaw made 27 starts last season albeit making just six starts in the second half due to a hip injury.

In the first half of the season, Stroman was dialed in and pitched with an ERA of 2.96. This was the fourth-best in the National League which led to talks about a potential Cy Young Award. Unfortunately, he got injured and was unable to keep up the pace he was on at the start of the season.

Prior to signing him, there had been reports that the Bronx Bombers were inclined to bring back former starter Jordan Montgomery. Whether the team will still pursue him and NL Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell now remains to be seen.

MLB fans not pleased with NY Yankees signing Marcus Stroman

The 2023 season was a painful one for the New York Yankees and everyone connected with them. The 27-time World Series started the year strong but an injury to captain Aaron Judge in April derailed their train.

After that, the team just never seemed to get back on track. Some of their top players like Giancarlo Stanton, Luis Severino, Nestor Cortes, Anthony Rizzo, and Carlos Rodon all struggled to perform at their highest level. In their attempts to rejuvenate the pitching rotation, the Yankees have now signed Marcus Stroman.

While the pitcher has no shortage of experience playing on the biggest stage, his past actions have not sat down well with the team. Fans were left enraged when the news of him joining the New York-based side broke out. One angry user wrote, “Can’t wait till he’s booed out,” regarding this move.

While the fans might not like this move, the Yankees seem to be ready to bury the hatchet with him. The starting rotation of the Yankees will now see him link up with Gerrit Cole, Clarke Schmidt, Carlos Rodon, and Nestor Cortes for the 2024 season.
