The 2023 MLB season is just not working out for the New York Yankees. The most successful side in baseball history is going through some torrid times. On Wednesday, they lost their fourth straight and got swept by the Los Angeles Angels. This brought out contrasting results for the team. While the Angels got a much-needed boost for the play-off reason, the Yankees drift further away from second last spot.
After suffering a walk-off loss to the Rockies, the team suffered another crushing defeat. They were walked off for a second day running as the Angels won 4-3. The only positive from the game was it was a close one. However, they were comfortably crushed away in the next two games.
Starting pitcher Carlos Rodon had another day to forget. The former White Sox pitcher was one of the anticipated players to watch out for following his return from injury. It has though not turned out how he or the Yankee fans would have hoped for. The southpaw is now 0-3 in his three starts to the season. While exiting the game against the Angels, he was jeered by some fans, to whom he gave a blown kiss.
“Yeah I blew a kiss. I guess it was the best reaction I could give. But better not to give a reaction I guess,” Rodon said on the incident. This also marks the first time since 2009 that the Angels have swept the Yankees.

To take out the positive from such results is always the hardest thing for a manager. Yankees manager Aaron Boone has to try to find a solution to their problems. The absence of Aaron Judge was always going to hurt the Yankees. However, very few would have imagined things would go this bad. With a timeline for his return yet not announced, things look bleak for the side.
“We’re not very good right now. The silver lining in it all is it is in front of us and we control that,” Boone said in his post-match conference. To sum it up using stats, the Yankees are batting with an average of .218 without their captain Judge. Twitter users once again slammed the team, players, and managers for this poor outing. Here are a few of them.
The Yankees now return home to New York the Kansas City Royals. The Royals themselves are bottom of the table. While the team can surprise anyone, many would be hoping the Yankees can bounce back against them.
