In the past few days, the name of Baltimore Orioles, keeps grabbing the headlines. After reports emerged about owner John Angelos agreeing to sell the team, there is another surprise in store for them. On Thursday, the team acquired ace pitcher Corbin Burnes from the Milwaukee Brewers.

In a shocking trade, the Orioles acquired the 2021 National League Cy Young Award winner for two of their top prospects in reliever DL Hall and shortstop Joey Ortiz and a 2024 Competitive Balance Round A Draft in exchange. This stunning move comes after the pitcher failed to meet the salary offered by the Brewers during the salary arbitration process.

As per reports, Burnes will become a free agent after the end of the 2024 season. This has led to speculations on whether the new ownership group which includes club legend Cal Ripken Jr. will splash the cash and extend his stay.

Burnes was selected by the Brewers in the 2016 draft and made his debut in 2018. Since then he had established himself as one of the top pitchers of the game. He would become the ace pitcher of the team and won the NL Cy Young Award in 2021.

In the 32 games he started in the 2023 season, the southpaw finished with a 10-8 record. During this time, he managed to pick up 200 strikeouts and pitched with an ERA of 3.39, once again showing off his impressive skills on the mound.
