“C*ck high fastball”: Pete Rose is just cantankerous, wrangling himself into a new sea of controversies

Pete Rose

Pete Rose has again placed a foot into the mud of controversies. On Sunday, a couple of days ago Rose was involved in a disgraceful interview, his squabbily reply to a female reporter shadowed over his return to the Philadelphia Phillies stadium honoring the 1980 World Championship.

Pete Rose being the legendary player he is, had the audacity to tell a female reporter that he would sign a 1000 baseball before apologizing for the child abuse allegations that surrounded him, a sexual relationship with a minor decades ago. He not only brushed off the allegations, he maintained what we commonly known as hopelessness.

After his so-called honor for the 1980 Championship, Pete Rose made an appearance in the NBC Sports Philadelphia booth on Sunday during the Phillies home game against the Washington Nationals, he played for the Philadelphia Phillies between 1979 and 1983. He only had a broadcasting booth cameo but still managed to tell a lewd anecdote about a “c*ck-high fastball”.

Pete Rose was a switch hitter and is the all-time MLB leader in hits (4,256), games played (3,562), at-bats (14,053), singles (3,215), and outs (10,328). Rose talked about catching a foul ball during Game 6 of the 1980 World Series where catcher Bob Boone dropped it but Rose caught it.

Pete Rose expressed that Bob Boone was as slow as the tortoise in the race, except he did not win the race as the catch was caught by Rose. He said there was a saying “It’s okay to carry a piano on your back, but don’t stop the play [you] son of a bi*ch, okay.” elaborating on the expression’s meaning, he said, “Just get around the bases,”

Recalling catching the foul ball, Rose said, “I had to watch out for the horseshit over there because the horses on the field.”. “Is this an X-rated show?” asked Rose. He added, “You guys are being off the air tomorrow.”

Pete Rose recalled Cincinnati Reds teammate Tony Pérez, who hit a game-winning home run, being asked by radio broadcaster Joe Nuxhall, “Tony, congratulations. What did you hit?” Rose said that Pérez answered, “Joe, I hit a cock-high fastball.”. “And Joe didn’t know what to say. Joe said, ‘No shit?’” Rose said, laughing.
