As the last week of the year 2023 commences, the eyes of the world are set on for the new year. In MLB, teams have started to bring in new players and planning for the 2024 season. The Boston Red Sox are one of them who are looking to improve from last season. However, the offseason so far has not brought any positive results with new reports claiming that the team is now struggling to land free agent Jordan Montgomery.

The Red Sox have been one of the teams that have spent huge money on the market. However, in recent years they have struggled to live up to the expectations of many. Last season was one of their poor outings where they finished bottom of the table with a negative record. This poor performance on the pitch and on the market has led to many blasting them including MLB podcaster Tyler Milliken.

Milliken who runs the podcast, “Name Redacted Podcast“, did not seem pleased with the reports of Montogomery. At a time when two big free agents Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto joined the LA Dodgers on length deals, the Red Sox are finding it expensive to get their hands on the experienced Montogomery.

If Jordan Montgomery is out of your budget, you don’t deserve to own a sports team. Especially the damn Boston Red Sox.

Jordan Montgomery’s 2023 MLB season

When it comes to ace pitchers, Jordan Montgomery may not be a huge draw as some other names, but he has plenty of experience to back himself. The 30-year-old starting pitcher has established himself as a rotating option in the bullpen that can change the course if needed to call upon.

All’s well that ends well” is a popular saying which comes true for Montgomery. He did not start the season strong and found himself on the trade market. The St. Louis Cardinals who acquired him from the New York Yankees in 2022, traded him to the Texas Rangers in July 2023.

However, he ended the season with a World Series ring as he won the World Series with the Rangers. During his time in the playoffs, he started Game 1 of the 2023 American League Wild Card Series which the Rangers won 4-0 against the Tampa Bay Rays.

He even started Game 2 of the World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Despite his best efforts in the game though, he ended up as the losing pitcher as the Rangers lost that game. He was later named as one of the six Rangers’ players to be named in the All-MLB team for the 2023 season.

The left-handed pitcher ended the season with a 10-11 record and an ERA of 3.20 in 32 starts of the season. Before joining the Rangers, the former Yankee southpaw had a 6-9 record in 21 starts with a high ERA of 3.48. Whether he will rejoin the Rangers through free agency or will the Red Sox try again to get their hands on him for a lower price now remains to be seen.
