“Another player benched”- Red Sox’s Trevor Story out for a week and half after wrist fracture

Trevor Story, the Red Sox’s second baseman, has a small hairline fracture near his right wrist and will not be able to swing a bat for at least 10 days before being reassessed. Story’s bone bruise is fine, according to manager Alex Cora, but doctors discovered this problem while examining that one.

It was referred to by him as “basically, like a strain,” and said the treatment doesn’t change. “It’s something that’s not a surprise for us because it’s the same kind of thing,” Cora told reporters on Saturday.

One week prior, Cora said Story swung the bat and was doing “a lot better.” He noted that Story was “trending in the right direction,” but his prognosis quickly took a turn for the worse. Trevor Story is hitting a .221 with 15 home runs and 58 RBIs in his first season with the Red Sox. In his first Major League season, he emerged as one of baseball’s elite defensive second basemen.

In his absence, expect Christian Arroyo, who was activated from the injured list on Saturday after suffering a left groin strain, and Yolmer Sanchez to see extended time at second base for the Red Sox. Following Friday’s game, Jeter Downs was assigned to Triple-A Worcester.
