As of lately one name in the MLB has been stealing all the attention. Cincinnati Reds young rising star, Elly De La Cruz has taken the league by storm ever since his arrival. The top prospect once again left everybody impressed on Friday night, when he became the first Reds player since 1989 to hit for the cycle.

Hitting for the cycle is considered one of the hardest tasks in baseball. Several big names have come close to do it but have fallen short at the end. Cruz however, has been something different. He has earned a name for himself for his super speed. After accomplishing his feat against the Atlanta Braves, he also becomes the youngest player since 1972 to do so.

In his fifteen starts as a major league player, Cruz started off with a double in the second inning. As per Statscast, the ball’s speed off his bat was recorded at around 117 mph, showing his impressive strength. The young hitter followed this up with a home run in the third and a broken-bat single in the fifth.

As mentioned earlier, many players have missed out on the prestigious cycle by one margin – the triple. Hitting a triple is not only hard but it also needs requires speed from the batter to run towards third base. Fortunately, Cruz is a fast runner. In the sixth inning, he pulled one toward the right field and went on to race. With his incredible speed, he reached the third base safely as the stadium exploded with joy.

There is probably not a single person who has not been left surprised by Elly De La Cruz. In his short career so far, he has shown all the signs to be a major league. Fans have now started to wonder whether his historic rise will lead him to the All-Star Game. If he does make it to the marquee event, his debut will probably go down as one of the best in MLB history.

This cycle by Cruz was the first one for the Cincinnati Reds since 1989. Eric Davis was the last player for the Reds to achieve this feat, 34 years ago. Cruz’s performance helped the Reds to a 12th straight victory, equaling a franchise record. Twitter was full of joy regarding his performance and here are a few of the reactions.

There is no denying that Cruz has played a pivotal role in the Reds’ recent surge. As per official records, the Reds are 14-2 since he made his debut earlier in June. This impressive run has taken them to the top of the NL Central division. If they can continue to play with this momentum, their chances of playing in the postseason will increase greatly.
