Recently, Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred has been under the heat from the fans. The baseball fanatics have slammed him over his various decisions and actions in the past few years. He once again found himself under controversy regarding his comments on the relocation of the Oakland Athletics to Las Vegas.
Following these comments, Manfred came under the spotlight. He was called out by fans and experts for this take. He has now retraced his former words and informed that they were taken “out of context.” While speaking before the London Series between the Chicago Cubs and St Louis Cardinals, he stated they all feel sorry for the development.
The Commissioner stated that they are all unhappy and hate to move. He further explained that the parties did everything they could to possibly keep the team in Oakland. Manfred however hitted back at the critics and mentioned that one night (reverse boycott) can not affect the work undone in the past decade. The approval process for the relocation is expected to begin in the upcoming days. If the council approves the proposal, the Oakland Athletics will have no choice but to move forward.
In a stunning turn of events, the Athletics supporters decided to perform a reverse boycott. They filled out their “home” against the Tampa Bay Rays. The players did not disappoint them, as they won the game. This move was done as to signal that the fans are not at fault for the recent happenings in connection with the team.
What had Rob Manfred said regarding the reverse boycott by Oakland Athletics?

The Athletics are one of the most successful sides in baseball history. Despite their recent downfall, the A’s faithful have stuck with them in these dark times. However, the talk of relocating the Athletics to a new ballpark and city was not well received. A’s fans started to boycott the games at the Coliseum in protest against Rob Manfred and team owner John Fisher.
Regarding this incident, Manfred said he was sorry for the fans in Oakland. He added that he can understand the feelings and frustrations of the Oakland fans. The commissioner though retracted the attack back on the fans and asked what Oakland was prepared to offer. He stated that the community did not provide any support and there was no offer of help from the city officials either. Manfred later claimed that it came to a point where they had to realize it was never going to happen.
The Athletics currently own the worst record in the MLB (19-58). With the loss of the Athletics, the city of Oakland will now be losing three professional teams. Their new stadium is reported to be close to NFL Raiders and T-Mobile Arena, home of the newly crowned Stanley Cup champions Golden Knights.
