“Winning breeds confidence”: Rob Thomson and Bryson Stott do it AGAIN!!

Bryson Stott and Rob Thomson

Rob Thomson signed with the Philadelphia Phillies on 3rd June 2022 and since then has been a sensational interim manager for them. He came in and initiated playing Bryson Stott as a starter.

The interim manager has bagged a record of 5-0 after taking charge, becoming the first manager for the Philadelphia Phillies to win the first five games since Pat Moran in 1915, the year followed by their first National League pennant. Moreover, Rob Thomson is also the first manager with any team since Detroit Tiger’s Jim Leyland who did the same in 2006 and went on to win the American League pennant.

It is said that the Phillies are supposedly playing their best baseball since their previous manager Joe Girardi was sacked. Bryson Stott, Kyle Schwarber, and Aaron Nola had themselves a night against the Milwaukee Brewers winning 10-0. Maybe their victors do deserve a day off.

Stott singled twice, doubled and homered for a career-high four hits. He has been starting regularly with Rob Thomson as the bench coach and has hit three dingers in five games. “Obviously, it helps to get those at-bats every day and kind of just grinding through it,” Stott said. “Just getting more comfortable and being more relaxed.”

Kyle Schwarber had a lot to say when asked about the new interim manager Rob Thomson, he said, “It’s hard to say, right? Obviously, Joe’s not here because we didn’t win. We weren’t winning. Obviously, there’s that reality right in the middle of your face, right? But man, we’ve got to do better. We’ve got to find a way to win games. You can say it. You don’t have to say it. I think it’s just reality just staring us in the face.” He continued, “It’s on us to change that. I feel like we’ve been doing a really good job of not letting anything negative affect us. We’re coming in with a positive mindset every day and we’re having fun. That’s the main goal: We’re going to keep having fun, win or lose.”

Kyle Schwarber and Bryson Stott each had four hits. Rob Thomson was also a part of the post-match conference in which he said, “Winning breeds [confidence] and these guys are playing well in all phases, it takes a while for some guys just to get comfortable being up here,” Thomson elaborated. “It’s a different type of pitching. A lot more quality pitching. You’ve got to make adjustments and he’s starting to make adjustments.”

Bryson Stott even had a word about the team’s new look. He said no one is here to be the team’s saviour, we all work hard to contribute and help the team win. Like this Phillies will strengthen their line-up and become more demanding against opposing pitchers.
