It has finally come to an end, and the streak is broken. On Tuesday night, the National League won the MLB All-Star game 3-2 and broke a barren run of nine successive losses. The Colorado Rockies’ rookie catcher Elias Diaz was named the MVP of the game. It was his go-ahead two-run home run in the eighth inning that turned the game around and proved the decisive factor.
Before this, the National League was dominated by the American League. The former led only four innings in the last nine encounters. Once again, it seemed the cycle would continue, as they found themselves trailing. The Tampa Bay Rays‘ Yandy Diaz opened the scoring with a towering shot in the second inning.
Luis Arraez has been in stunning form this season and has proved his selection. He pulled the game back with an RBI single in the fourth. Going into the eighth inning, Elias Diaz turned out to be the hero. It also marked the first time that two players sharing a common name had gone yard in the all-star game. The AL got closer but were unable to tie the game and lost for the first time in over a decade.

The All-Star break provides a much-needed break in a long season. Teams that were struggling at the start were seen changing gears after the break. This year, several big names need that change to salvage their season. Speaking of the game, it turned out to be a classic despite missing a few big names through injury concerns.
As the scoreline suggests, the game was really close. Pitcher Craig Kimbrel once again showed his class and proved why he is still one of the best. He stuck out Guardians Jose Ramirez with runners in scoring position to secure the lead. Twitter had a fun night, and here are some of the reactions revolving around the NL’s victory at the 2023 All-Star Game.
Up next is a two-day break for rest. The MLB will resume the second half of the season on July 14 when the Philadelphia Phillies go up against the San Diego Padres. This is where the race for the play-offs gets intense as teams battle it out. While the Braves are comfortably leading their division, the top two teams in the other five divisions are only separated by two games. It will not come as a shock if some of the racing in some of these divisions comes right down to the wire.
