“Cried in the clubhouse” Roger Clemens seen weeping after pitching the bat at Mike Piazza, reveals Joe Torre

Roger Clemens and Mark Piazza
Roger Clemens also known as the ‘Rocket’ to the New York Yankee fans, he was a magician with the ball. Considered to be the most dominant pitcher on the field, back in the time, an 11-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion, he won seven Cy Young Awards during his career. Commendable, isn’t it?
Former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre disclosed that Roger Clemens actually cried in the clubhouse after throwing Mike Piazza’s broken bat back at him during the 2000 World Series. Joe Torre was present on SNY’s ‘Like We Never Left’ when the major issue from the past came into the conversation.
“[Pitching coach] Mel Stottlemyre, who was not coaching with us because he was in the hospital with multiple myeloma, was able to come out of the hospital and watch from my office,” Joe Torre said “George Steinbrenner was in there with him. After that half-inning, Roger Clemens went into the office to see Mel and Mel told me that he was crying on what had just transpired.”

Roger Clemens could not hold back his emotions after the Mike Piazza incident, as per Joe Torre

The incident took place in the Game 2 of the series and is considered, till now, one of the most heated incidents of World Series history. The fans back then knew Roger Clemens and Mike Piazza had a history, history that even involved Piazza getting hit-by-pitch on the head causing the New York Met’s catcher to be diagnosed with a concussion.
Joe Torre continued, “Pitchers who have all that passion, it leaks out all over the place. But that’s what Mel told me. He was devastated with the result of what had happened and he was crying.”
Although Roger Clemens has never come out publicly to speak about this particular incident but Mike Piazza was recently invited for a conversation on WFAN’s Carton and Roberts on Monday and said there is no longer any bad blood between them.
He said, “I saw him (Roger Clemens) at a Michael Jordan golf tournament in the mid-2000s, and just said hi, I guess life has a way of mellowing you out, so I have no resentment or bitter feelings towards it.”
