With each passing day, the MLB postseason run takes a new twist and turn. While the LA Dodgers and Atlanta Braves have a stronghold on their groups, the other four divisions are battling hard to book a place in the knockout stages. One division that has gotten hot in recent days is the AL West, thanks to the sudden emergence of the Seattle Mariners.

The Seattle-based side is the only team in MLB currently that has not made any appearances in the World Series. They are hoping to change that statistics this year. The team is currently 10-1 in their previous eleven games and crushed the Kansas City Royals 15-2 in their latest outing. In this big win, their offense took off, as they homered seven times.

At one point in the season, the Mariners were nearly 10 games behind the leaders, the Texas Rangers. However, they suffered one of their worst phases of the season recently as they lost eight games on the bounce, giving the Mariners a golden chance to come roaring back.

Teoscar Hernandez hit two home runs. He was joined by Josh Rojas, Mike Ford, Cal Raleigh, Cade Marlowe, and star man Julio Rodriguez. J-Rod, who had a fantastic week last time, scripted another piece of history in this game. Pitcher Logan Gilbert‘s seven strong innings helped them move to the top of the division in first place.

Ever since making his debut for the Seattle Mariners, Julio Rodriguez has taken the league by storm. A strong first year saw him clinch the American League Rookie of the Year award. This season, he is once again their main player. After an awesome 4-game span over the last week, J-Rod has now become the fastest Mariners player to hit 50 home runs.

The incident occurred in the bottom of the fifth inning, with the Mariners leading 9-1. A two-run home run off the back of Jackson Kowar‘s fastball saw him etch his name forever in Mariners history. By doing so, he overtook MLB greats Ken Griffey Jr. and Alex Rodriguez. A-Rod would achieve this in his 269th game, while “The Kid” took 377 to reach this milestone, compared to J-Rod, who took just 256 to accomplish this feat.

He is not the youngest player to do so in the franchise’s history. Both A-Rod and Griffey Jr. were 21 years old when they managed this feat. This resurgence from Rodriguez has played a key role in the revival of the Mariners season.

Since July 21, Rodriguez has hit 9 home runs, comparatively more than the 13 he managed in three months before that. His batting average has also increased from .244 to .380. The Mariners fans are now hoping this is the year where things work out well for them. J-Rod will have to be at his sharpest if he hopes to help the team achieve their goals this year.
