“Bow down peasants”: Shohei Ohtani’s alluring whack poops on the Yankees’ 50th HR party

Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge
Los Angeles Angels’ star Shohei Ohtani whacks his 29th home run of the 2022 season to take his team towards victory in the series opener New York Yankees at Angel Stadium. The Angels’ 4-3 victory in front of a sold-out crowd of 44,537 extended their winning streak to four games.
The top two American League Most Valuable Player candidates, Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani faced off on Monday, and each definitely put on a show for their fans. Shohei overtook the stardom on the night when Aaron Judge pulled off his 50th home run of the season, his two-run homer in the fifth put the Angels ahead for good in their 4-3 win.
“Of course, it’s important for a player to be able to have a season like this,” Shohei Ohtani said through an interpreter. “I want to be able to keep this pace and continue to play in games. I’ve been able to see the ball pretty good, and it’s leading to relatively good results.”
Aaron Judge’s historic night spoiled by Shohei Ohtani

“It was a great ballgame just to be a part of,” said interim manager Phil Nevin. “From the entertainment side of it, once I let Judge take a few swings [after two intentional walks], that’s why you do those things. And then Shohei Ohtani’s was a big one. He waited back on that split from Montas, and he got the part of the bat on it. It’s how strong he is, hitting a ball out front like that.”
It was the second straight game with a homer for Shohei Ohtani, who is batting .312/.387/.634 with seven homers and 17 RBIs in 26 games in August. Whereas, Judge has had a better year offensively than Ohtani, as he has a slash line of .294/.396/.661 with 50 homers, 14 stolen bases and 110 RBIs in 125 games.
“Aaron Judgy is on a different planet, and so is Shohei Ohtani,” Ford said. “If they could give two awards, it would be those two. It was pretty fun to see them match up. And for them to both homer in the same game was pretty cool.”
