On Monday, Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Strider took a no-hitter into the eighth innings while striking out 13 batters. This helped the Braves overpower the Miami Marlins 11-0 and end a four-game losing streak. Strider had a perfect game until Matt Olson, the golden glove first baseman made an error while fielding in the seventh.

Strider finished second in the race for the National League Rookie of the Year last season. He pitched over 100 pitches in this game and lowered his ERA to 1.80 thanks to a shutout performance. His latest outing for the Braves set a new franchise record. In his last nine starts, he has managed to pick up at least nine strikeouts in every game.

His dominance on the mound was clearly felt by the Marlins. It took him just 55 strikes to retire the first 18 batters he came up against. He was relieved of his duty after leaving Garrett Hampson swinging in mid air. He left the field to a standing ovation. A well-deserved applause one must say.

The 24-year-old has continued to impress every he stepped up the mound. Spencer Strider was picked as a fourth-round draft by the Atlanta Braves in 2020 and made his major league debut a year later. In his first year, he played only two games. The 2022 season has been the main highlight of his short career so far.

He took part in 31 games last year and made 20 starts. He finished the season with an 11-5 win-loss record. Pitching at an ERA of 2.67, Strider picked up 202 strikeouts. That year he set a Braves single-game franchise record. In his team’s 3-0 win over the Colorado Rockies, he picked up a staggering amount of 16 strikeouts.

That 16 strikeout performance over eight innings saw him break the record of 15 strikeouts, previously held by John Smoltz. He just allowed two hits and no walks over 106 pitches. This outing made him a strong candidate for the NL Rookie of the Year but eventually lost it to his own teammate Micheal Harris.

This year Strider is in the running for the NL Cy Young Award. He has picked up wins in three of his five starts this season. Over the year he has pitched 30 innings and has collected 49 strikeouts. This performance by the Braves was the perfect comeback they would have hoped for after getting swept in their three-game series against the Houston Astros.
