WATCH – Tampa Bay Rays DETHRONED by Blue Jays ending 13-game win streak, MLB Twitter reacts
MLB fans are in rage mode as Tampa Bay Rays unbeaten start gets cut short by Toronto Blue Jays in 13-game streak.
All good things must come to an end. This statement was proven once again as the Tampa Bay Rays lost their first game of the season, ending their unbeaten start. The historic winning march came to an end on Friday night when they lost 6-3 to the Toronto Blue Jays. With this loss, the Rays were unable to go past another historic feat.
Falling one short of the 14-0 record, the Rays have now ended up being level with the 1982 Braves and 1987 Brewers for the longest modern-day winning streak to open a season. Their opposition, the Blue Jays were in no mood to become a part of the Rays’ winning run. They started off strong with a homerun from George Springer in the bottom of the first inning. There was no looking back after that.
An RBI double from Bo Bichette doubled their lead in the second inning. The Rays pulled one run back in the fourth inning to signal a comeback but things quickly slipped from their hands. Singles from Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr kicked things off in the fifth inning.
Vlad’s hit could have been fielded better by shortstop Wander Flanco. Daulton Varsho would then earn a walk to load up the bases. After Matt Chapman was struck out, the Rays changed their pitcher and brought in Colin Poche as a reliever.
Poche walked in two runs as the Blue Jays extended their lead to 4-1. A throwing error from Brandon Lowe cost two runs as the inning ended with the Rays down to 6-1. They did go for back-to-back sole homeruns from Josh Lowe and Christian Bethancourt in the seventh inning to make the game interesting. However, they were unable to get more runs and were thus handed their first loss of the season.

Twitter reacts as Blue Jays end Rays winning streak
The Rays came into the match looking to make history. A victory over the Blue Jays on Friday would have seen them surpass the 1982 Braves and 1987 Brewers for the best start ever in modern-day MLB. They had gone 13-0 without much hassle. They had outscored their opponents with a staggering 78-20 scoreline with 11 of their 13 wins being more than four runs.
Twitter was quick to react to this development. Some users pointed out the fact that the Blue Jays were the first real test of the season for the Rays and they failed. There is no doubt that the Rays had a relatively easy schedule to start the season as compared to others but nothing can be taken away from them.
The Rays will now be looking to bounce back in style when they take to the field on Saturday. Meanwhile, another win for the hosts would see them take the series and signal their intentions of being a clear title contender this season. A series after the Blue Jays will see the Rays in action against the Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago White Sox.
