MLB’s Adam Berry reported, “Nearly every Tampa Bay Rays player who took the field against the White Sox in the first inning did so with a rainbow-coloured sunburst logo patch on his right arm and a rainbow-coloured “TB” logo on his cap,”

Pitchers Jason Adam, Jalen Beeks, Brooks Raley, Jeffrey Springs and Ryan Thompson were a few Tampa Bay Rays players who in no case wished to wear the LGBTQ+ pride logo on their jersey, came out with their standard Tampa Bay Rays cap and uniform for the Annual Pride Day celebration game.

It was made clear by the team that the players were in support of the team’s movement but did not wear the uniform and caps as per their religious beliefs. Jason Adam was appointed as the spokesperson for the rest of the pitchers and said,

“So, it’s a hard decision. Because ultimately, we all said what we want is for them to know that all are welcome and loved here. But when we put it on our bodies, I think a lot of guys decided that it’s just a lifestyle that maybe — not that they look down on anybody or think differently — it’s just that maybe we don’t want to encourage it if we believe in Jesus, who’s encouraged us to live a lifestyle that would abstain from that behaviour, just like [Jesus] encourages me as a heterosexual male to abstain from sex outside of the confines of marriage. It’s no different.”

Tampa Bay Rays manager, Kevin Cash was cross-questioned about his players’ decision to which he said the team had the option to opt-in or opt out from wearing the pride caps and patches individually. He continued, “I think what it has created is, like, what you’ve heard — a lot of conversation and valuing the different perspectives inside the clubhouse but really appreciating the community that we’re trying to support here,”
