The Dynasty of the Houston Astros has finally seen a stop. After making two back-to-back appearances in the World Series, the 2022 champions were eliminated by their arch-rivals, the Texas Rangers. The Arlington side demolished their opponents 11-4 in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) and are now on their way to the Fall Classic.
The Rangers started off the season well and seemed to be cruising away with the divisional title at one stage. However, the Astros found a way back and snatched the crown on the final day of the regular season. Their rivals now seem to have gained the last laugh on them.
This also turned out to be just the second time that the visiting team won all the games. The first time this happened was in 2019 which also involved the Astros. The Rangers have now won the pennant and will make their first World Series appearance since 2011. They had their heart broken in St. Louis that year and now will be hoping to go one better than that.
Adolis Garcia named ALCS MVP for outstanding performances with the Rangers
While the Texas Rangers have enjoyed collective success through hard teamwork, one man has been breathing fire for them. Outfielder Adolis Garcia stole the show once again and was named the ALCS MVP. He followed up his three-run home run in Game 5 and a grand slam in Game 6 with two solo shots this time as his side registered a huge win.
He started off with a line drive to the left field that hit the center field wall off started Cristian Javier. The Cuban international missed the home run on his occasion in the first but stole the base to get in scoring position.
His first home run came in the top of the third as he powered one at the right field pole. This saw the Rangers extend their lead to 4-1. While the Astros, did put up some sort of fight, their opponents were just too good for them. His second came late in the eighth inning as his side flexed their muscles and led the game 11-3.
Garcia also known as “El Bombi” would go on to surpass the record of Nelson Cruz for the most RBIs in a postseason by a Rangers player. The former player had 13 to his name which Garcia overtook and wrote another chapter of his name in Rangers’ history books.
Jose Altuve hit his 27th postseason home run in the ninth. However, it turned out to be a mere consolation as the visitors held their ground and won the game 11-4. This also preserved the records of their manager Bruce Bochy. He had never lost a Game 7 before and this win continued their record for now. “He’s a bad man, isn’t he?” Corey Seager talked about Garcia via MLB on Fox.
The Rangers will look to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks or the Philadelphia Phillies in the best-of-seven World Series. Could the Rangers finally get the job done and land the exclusive trophy this season, will be interesting to see.
