“Nestor, the MOLESTOR”: Twins broadcaster wraps Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes around with an offensive remark

Nestor Cortes
During a broadcast on Thursday, the Minnesota Twins’ broadcaster Jim Kaat cited ‘Nestor the Molester, Nestor Cortes’ while having a conversation about the New York Yankee left-handed pitcher. The 83 years old Hall of Famer made such an offensive statement for the second time in the past year.
Minnesota Twins had to go through a 3-2 loss against the Detroit Tigers, during which, Jim Kaat started addressing Nestor Cortes while Twin’s Chris Archer was striking out Tiger’s Miguel Cabrera.
Kaat was on air when he said, “Nestor the Molester, Nestor Cortes.” “Angles and different speeds. He’s a pitcher.”
Dustin Morse – Minnesota’s Vice President did not appreciate Kaat’s description of Cortes and has a word with Jim Kaat about the comment after the broadcast.
Morse said, “Obviously, we take these matters seriously and, like in all cases, will handle this internally and privately. Jim meant no ill will.”
TV Broadcasters cross limits to embarrass Nestor Cortes

Cortes, who is also popularly known as the “Nasty Nestor,” was put a question about the comment, after the Yankees’ Thursday night doubleheader against the Los Angeles Angels.
“I’m sure, you know, he didn’t really mean it, and people make mistakes, but it didn’t offend me at all,” Cortes said, via The Associated Press, as quoted by ESPN. “So, you know, I don’t really have anything more to say than just that, honestly.”
Nestor Cortes pitched seven scoreless innings against the Angels to win the first game of the doubleheader.

Jim Kaat’s offensive remarks reminded the media and viewers of his previous statement, in less than a year, made in October. He said the teams should try to “get a 40-acre field full of players” that look like Yoan Moncada. The comment was made on MLB Network broadcast in a game between Astros and White Sox, referencing the 40 acres of land and a mule that the United States government promised, and largely failed to deliver to, slaves after they were freed following the Civil War.
Jim Kaat had to apologize after the broadcast, following which he said, “Earlier in the game when Yoan Moncada was at the plate, in an attempt to compliment the great player that he is, I used a poor choice of words that resulted in an insensitive and hurtful remark and I’m sorry for that.”
