Laz Diaz
Umpire Laz Diaz has gone onto make headlines after making not one, not two but three bizarre calls during Tuesday’s contest between Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals. With third baseman Brendan Donovan was struck out, the manner of his dismissal was highly questionable. Moreover, it led to MLB Fans sending out hate messages to umpire Diaz, who seems to have missed the plot outrageously.
Talking about the incident, pitcher Jose Berrios struck Donovan out on five pitches. Wherein all three of the strikes by home plate umpire Laz Diaz. One might have looked away, but here comes the plot twist, none of those three strikes were actually in the strike zone.
To add to Diaz’ misery, multiple looks at the sequence paints an even worse picture, as the only pitch of the at-bat that was actually in the strike zone was called a ball.
This is not the first time that MLB umpires have taken the center stage with such negative remarks. Be it Laz Diaz or the instances prior, the mockery of the officials have reached to the very top. So, it should come as no surprise that this sequence of missed calls got the attention of the MLB world.
MLB Fans bamboozled by Laz Diaz’ calls on Tuesday night

Any defense on Laz Diaz probably starts with the fact that none of these calls were completely out-of-the-box. All had a high combination of break and velocity from Berrios and were excellently framed by Alejandro Kirk.
For which quite a lot of fans have already given credit to. But then such instances to hamper the result of the showdown, especially with the second half of the 2022 season about to enter its business end. Take a look at some of the reaction from fans.
Making matters worse is that the three pitches missed on different sides of the plate. Whether the league goes onto investigate this matter further, is what remains to be seen. Lastly, it is likely that Diaz might just receive some harsh criticism from the fans.
