Toronto Blue Jays first baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has once again stirred up social media, but this time not by his accomplishments. He has riled up the New York Yankees with his recent comments about contract sign-up after the 2025 season. As a young catch, many MLB teams will be aiming for him, but the Yankees will not be one of the favorable ones.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. stated that he enjoys his position as the Yankees killer with his current team, and would rather like to stay with them for a longer duration. Even if that is not the case, he is willing to sign with any team. Any team, other than the Yankees that is.
In his recent interview with Vincent Carmona Arias, he said, “I like to play in New York. I like to kill the Yankees. I would never sign with the Yankees, not even [when I’m] dead”. His controversial explosive comments against the Yankees stirred the internet.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr interested to stay with the Toronto Blue Jays
As the Yankee killer on the field, the 23-year-old has been enjoying 2022 till now. He won the Gold Glove award and hit 32 home runs this season. Calculating his score against the Yankees, he has made a .289 batting average, 13 homers, and 41 RBI. Plus he blasted 10 home runs in 31 games at the Yankees stadium. Well, that’s a good feat, and we can surely guess why he said what he said.
Though he has made some rather harsh and hasty comments on contract sign-up with the Yankees, time and money could “change minds” later on. For now, the Yankees jersey will have to wait in the locker room till that day ever arise. As of now, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has made one fact very clear, on how he would like to stay with the current team.
He commented, “I feel really happy playing here”. “I hope something can be done about it this offseason.” The 2025 season is yet to come so there’s ample time for the Blue Jays to think of a strategy and lock their star player in. Otherwise, MLB teams will be rushing in a heartbeat.
