In a shocking move on Sunday, the Tampa Bay Rays announced that shortstop Wander Franco was out of the starting lineup. It was later revealed that this move was taken after a stunning social media post alleged his relationship with a minor. The league has launched an official investigation into the matter.
This came after the Rays lost their game against the Cleveland Guardians by a score of 9-2. To make things worse for the 22-year-old, he was supposed to be part of a giveaway promotion on Sunday. Fans aged 14 or under could receive a “Wander Franco” Snapback Hat as they entered the stadium. As the game came to a conclusion, the word had already been spread across the country.
The team in their statement claimed that they are aware of the social media post involving Wander Franco. “We take the situation seriously and are in close contact with the Major League Baseball as it conducts its due diligence,” the statement further read, highlighting the significance of the incident.

Wander Franco faces another round of controversy following serious allegations
The recent allegations against Wander Franco could change his landscape if proven correct. The shortstop has been alleged to be in a relationship with a 14-year-old minor. He is likely to face suspension until the matter has been resolved completely.
Kevin Cash his manager, told the media how he was aware of the speculation that was going around. He though declined to offer any comment and explained the decision to drop him. As per Cash, the shortstop was dropped because it was his day off, he said after the game while refusing to elaborate on the situation any further. Recently Franco faced the wrath of Cash and fans after he was benched for a few games in June for being a “poor teammate.”
The year 2023 has been proving to be a good one for the young Tampa Bay Rays shortstop. For his outstanding efforts in previous years, he was awarded an 11-year $182 million contract by the franchise. Since then he has continued to be an important part of the franchise.
For his great outings this season, he was named an All-Star, the first such nomination in his career. Speaking of the season, he is currently batting with an average of .281 and has slammed 17 home runs and 58 RBIs in the meantime. Whether he will be allowed to participate again and what consequences will he face remains to be seen.
