Soon after videos started emerging of Anthony Rendon grabbing a fan by his shirt, the MLB placed the Angeles third-baseman under investigation. Rendon justified his action on counts of being heckled by the fan after the game against the Oakland Athletics.

This incident on Friday was later confirmed by the MLB vice president for on-field, Michael Hill. Hill affirmed the same through a brief statement, further informing that Rendon had been suspended for the upcoming five MLB games.

Rendon did not play in the Angels’ match against the Seattle Mariners this Monday following the suspension. In the video, he seemed to be in a spat with one of the Angels’ fan,s and the player was heard saying, “What did you say?…you called me a bi**h, huh?” The fan, who initially denied saying anything such, was stunned when Rendon grabbed his shirt through the guardrails.

Phil Nevin, the Angels manager, says about this incident, “He’s remorseful for everything that happened. This doesn’t at all change how I feel about him as a person. … He’s a great leader on our team, and he has accepted responsibility as a good leader.”

General Manager of the Angels, Perry Minasian, refrained from commenting on this incident and said, “It’s a league investigation. Obviously, it’s in MLB’s hands right now. At this point, I can’t talk about it, but at some point, I will.”

The incident also caught the attention of the Oakland police, who are in tandem with the MLB continuing the investigation.
