MLB-Ten Cent Beer Night
The World of MLB had to witnessed a promotion which turned into a rather weird mix, Cleveland Indians, now known as the Cleveland Guardians offered beers for 10 cents back in 1974 to get the fans going in the ballpark. A single dime for unlimited beers? Tensions were expected to be soaring high.
The MLB fans got very excited hearing the news that Cleveland will be offering a ‘Ten Cent Beer Night’ for all the fans in the match against Texas Rangers. Fans were throwing cups full of beer at Rangers manager Billy Martin, following that 2 man ran onto the field showing their a** in the direction of Rangers outfielders.
Fans in the upper deck of Municipal Stadium chanted, “Hit em’ again! Hit em’ again! Harder! Harder!”. Eventually as the brawl erupted, Umpire Nestor Chylak called the game a forfeit in favor of Texas.
Although even that did not force Cleveland to put off the promotion, they scheduled three more of these beer nights, Lee McPhail, the MLB American League president said of the game, “There was no question that beer played a part in the riot”.

The story that was left behind after MLB’s nastiest promotion of beers
Cleveland Indians playing against the Texas Rangers was destined to be a heated game as six days prior to the ‘Ten Cent Beer Night’ the fans spectated a bench-clearing brawl between the two teams at Arlington Stadium in Texas. Cleveland sold an estimated 60,000 cups of beer to the 25,134 in attendance.
Although the Rangers were given a 9-0 victory, the night remained one of the darkest ones in the MLB history. Rangers’ outfield Mike Hargrove took a beer bottle to the head just when the game was past 15 minutes of commencement.
The fans’ misconduct did not stop here as a woman stood up over the wall near the first base dugout and bared her chest to players and umpires. Moments after that, Firecrackers were detonated continuously by the MLB fans.
The match had to be stopped as later in the game, the angry drunken fans were keen on facing the Texas Rangers roster with their fists. So much so that the Cleveland Indians had to run out of their dugout to help the Texas players.
