As the Major League Baseball (MLB) offseason continues, teams are looking to lock down some crucial players while trying to get their hands on new ones. An interesting development now finds Luis Arraez under the spotlight.

He though now finds his name being linked away from Marlins. During the MLB Arbitration deadline, he and the Miami-based side failed to agree on his salary. This development has raised concerns regarding his relationship with the organization.

The 26-year-old hitter is considered one of the best in the business. Arraez enjoyed a stellar season last time out with the Miami Marlins as he won his second straight National League batting champion title. The Venezuelan international finished the season with a batting average of .354 average.

Arraez currently has two years left in his contract before entering the free-agency market. As he and the Marlins failed to avoid arbitration, it now seems it will be difficult for them to keep a hold of him. A positive solution for both sides could be a trade-away.

The name of the New York Yankees has now been thrown in the mix. After a dismissal 2023 season, the Yanks would surely like to add more firepower to their team.

NY Yankees to open talks with Luis Arraez?

The New York Yankees had a year to forget in 2023. After a positive start to the season, injuries to key players saw them lose ground on their opposition. They would eventually finish the season with an 82-80 record which saw them miss the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Since then, the team has worked on bringing in new guns to add to their firepower. The marquee trade of Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo gives them some important backup in the offensive lineup.

As per Jon Heyman of the New York Post, one rival executive could be heard saying, “everything is on the table” regarding Arraez. This could allow the Yankees to open up talks about a potential blockbuster trade for him.

Only time can now tell whether the team will pursue him and be successful in landing him. However, if the Yankees do manage to pull him off the Marlins before the start of the upcoming season, this could be a big psychological win before the main event.
