After losing Blake Snell to free agency, the San Diego Padres had been looking out for a new “ace” pitcher. Their hunt of this came to an end on Wednesday as the team acquired Dylan Cease through a trade from the Chicago White Sox. However, this move has now proposed a interesting question on whether the New York Yankees will now go in for Snell?
The New York Yankees have been looking out for pitchers throughout the entire offseason. Having failed to sign Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the team has shown interest in several others big names including Snell and Cease. The latter though is out of their option, which has once again led to heavy speculation regarding Snell.
According to reports from Sports Illustrated, the 2023 National League Cy Young Award winner is seeking a contract worth more than $200 million from his next team. This high price has been a reason many sides are still considering other options rather than pursing him.
However, with reports of Gerrit Cole being out for at least a month due to an injury, Snell might be the best option for the Bronx Bombers. A 1-2 pairing of last year’s Cy Young Award winners could inject huge fear among the opposition hitters.
Another name the Yankees are potentially target is Jordan Montgomery. The former Yankees star has made a huge name for himself since leaving them and has put up good numbers with the Texas Rangers. However, getting him back in the pinstripe jersey is proving a bit difficult for them at the moment.
MLB Insider drops huge take regarding the impact of Dylan Cease’s trade on Blake Snell’s future
After the trade of Dylan Cease was officially announced, many people connected to baseball started wondering whether this will impact the future of Blake Snell. MLB insider Ken Rosenthal has now dropped a huge take regarding this.
Rosenthal recently appeared at the Foul Territory podcast and discussed this. According to him, the trade of Dylan Cease will have no impact on the immediate future of Blake Snell or even Jordan Montgomery. He claims that the two players have already been on the market and despite that no one has signed them.
Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery have been out there all winter. They have been available ready to sign and yet nothing happened. Obviously teams feel the price is still too high or not where they want it to be... I would expect that is not going to have any effect. This trade is not going to have any effect on that at all.Ken Rosenthal on impact of Dylan Cease’s trade.
Will either one of Snell or Montgomery actually end up the Yankees, remains to be seen. It is though likely that the New York-based side will try to land some big pitcher before the Opening Day.
