F**king hardest-hit of Statcast era”- Xander Bogaerts rockets 113mph grand slam against Twins
Xander Bogaerts
In a 6-5 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night, Xander Bogaerts‘ five RBIs halted the Minnesota Twins’ five-game winning streak. In the third inning, when Joe Ryan was having problems, a crucial play took place. Alex Verdugo grounded to Jose Miranda at first base with runners on the bases and no outs, and Miranda elected to throw home to try to prevent Kevin Plawecki from scoring.
The Red Sox took a 4-0 lead over the Twins after Xander Bogaerts hit a screaming liner over the left-field wall with the bases loaded. Just 392 feet, yet 113 miles per hour, were covered by the grand slam that Xander Bogaerts hit. The liner was Bogaerts’ fourth-hardest hit ball during the Statcast era (starting in 2015), and it was also his hardest hit ball thus far this season.
Plawecki moved safely to third base as a result of the error, loading the bases for Bogaerts to hit a line drive grand slam over the left field wall. Ryan had a difficult evening as a result of the home run and the solo bomb that J.D. Martinez hit to give the Red Sox a 5-0 lead later in the inning. Although the Red Sox still had a five-run advantage following Bogaerts’ RBI double in the sixth, Luis Arraez had cut into the lead with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third.

Xander Bogaerts’ grand slam puts an end to the Twins’ winning streak
With Arraez’s third RBI of the game in the seventh, the Twins fought back before posing a threat in the eighth. The score was 6-5 after Nick Gordon’s two-RBI double, but Boston was able to end the inning when he attempted to stretch it into a triple. Gilberto Celestino’s leadoff single and Gary Sanchez’s walk gave the Twins another chance to score in the ninth, but Arraez popped out and Carlos Correa grounded into a game-ending double play.
For the Twins, who are still 1.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the American League Central, the loss represented a lost chance. Following a day off on Thursday, the Twins will travel to Chicago to play the White Sox in a three-game series. Chicago is 3.5 games behind Minnesota in the division standings.
