Minor league baseball team Portland Pickles decided to pull off an engaging manoeuvre on Twitter as they allowed their mascot to take over their handle on the microblogging site. Their mascot, a giant pickle named Dillon was more than happy to oblige as it was excited to interact with the fans.

But the move turned out to be a huge disaster. Dillon’s very first post upon taking over blew the internet but for all the wrong reasons. The photo was branded as lewd and suggestive as the campaign went spiralling down. The Portland Pickles were quick to pull back the reins on their mascot’s social media privileges as the much-hyped campaign came to an abrupt end.

Portland Pickles mascot’s suggestive selfie that looked like a green cotton penis ended up breaking the internet. Dillon was seated, donning the team’s white jersey, and flashing the top of his furry green finger. The picture was misunderstood by the netizens who were quick to jump to a solution.

The fact that the mascot tagged several Twitter accounts with suggestive names, including Manscaped, Steak-umm, Bush’s Beans, Daniel Popper, Senator Scott Wiener, Oscar Meyer, Corn Nuts, and Justin Dickmeyer meant the stunt was intentional.

Portland Pickles were left redfaced over the selfie as they were quick to draw curtains on the campaign. The Pickles then went on to clarify that the picture was intended to be a “thumbs up” from their beloved mascot. “Our mascot takeover is over. It has been brought to our attention that this photograph could be misinterpreted as a disturbing image. Dillon would like to state unequivocally that he was attempting to give a thumbs up to his fans,” the tweet read.

Despite the best efforts of Portland Pickles, the post has been doing rounds on Twitter. It received over 50 thousand likes and almost seven thousand retweets as Dillon‘s future hangs in the balance. It is yet unclear if the mascot has been fired following the uproar and meme fest his post has triggered.
