During Newsday’s phone call with rival AL bench coach, the MLB pundit spoke on the power duo Juan Soto and Aaron Judge in the Bronx. He expressed how the duo overwhelmed their rivals with “terror” and extraordinary play during the 2024 season run.
However, the bench coach also said that the Yankees felt a sense of “relief” after Soto’s 15-year $765 million signing with the Mets. It was because the Yankees were stuck in free agency shopping until they heard anything from Soto.
Since Juan Soto decided to call Queens his home for the next 15 years, the Yankees immediately moved with their Plan B. They started adding players to the lineup and are still engaged in trade talks over an outfielder and someone with offensive power.
During the phone call the bench coach talked about both the positives and negatives of Soto’s and Mets deal. The Yankees can now focus on adding more players to the roster and use the $760 million they kept aside for Soto.

If Soto ended up in the Bronx, it would have been harder for the team financially to add more players after such a big commitment. While many will miss the Juan Soto-Aaron Judge duo, there is nothing to be done, except think for the positives.
Yankees and Anthony Santander “mutually” interested in free agency talk
Following the loss of Juan Soto, the New York Yankees are looking to add more offensive power to the lineup. They’ve been linked to several free agents but are yet to sign any. As of now, they’ve penned two ace pitchers Max Fried and Devin Williams in the lineup.
There have been reports on how the Yankees and right fielder Anthony Santander have a “mutual” interest in a deal. Santander wishes to don the pinstripes and may have his dream fulfilled too. Last season, Santander hit 44 home runs and set his own career record with the Baltimore Orioles.
He’ll be the perfect fit for the Yankees lineup given how they need his power to replace Soto. They are also looking to add Cody Bellinger in the mix, but their talk with the Chicago Cubs is again in a stalemate over $52 million.
According to Erik Boland of Newsday, the Yankees are eyeing Anthony Santander and the interest is "mutual"?

The other free agent players on Yankees’ radar are – Teoscar Hernandez, Pete Alonso, Christian Walker, Alex Bregman, Roki Sasaki, and others. The Yankees fans are holding their breathe as time passes by in free agency shopping. It’ll be interesting to see how the final lineup for 2025 looks and how ready they are for another World Series challenge.
