“We did cross the line…we’re wrong” – Carlos Beltran breaks silence on Astros’ cheating

Carlos Beltran

Former Houston Astros outfielder Carlos Beltran admitted about his team’s cheating scandal from their championship season in 2017. Notably, Beltran is all set to make his return from baseball exile when he starts his new job as an analyst for the network on Monday at New York Yankees camp.

In a recent interview with YES Network’s Michael Kay on Centerstage, released on Sunday, Carlos said: “We did cross the line” with the sign-stealing scheme.

According to the Major League Baseball’s (MLB’s) official investigation report (h/t Edward Sutelan of Sporting News), the Manati native Beltran was one of several players on the 2017 Astros who devised a plan to help improve the efficacy of the sign-stealing operation.

Yeah, there is because you know what we did,” he added. “And we all have taken responsibility and at some point, we all have shown remorse about what we did.”

Although Beltran, 44, did attempt to express remorse about the situation, some of his comments suggested he’s also trying to deflect his own responsibility for the scheme.

We all did what we did,” Beltran said. “Looking back today, we were wrong. I wish I would’ve asked more questions about what we were doing. I wish the organization would’ve said to us, ‘Hey man, what you guys are doing, we need to stop this.’”

Nobody really said anything,” he concluded. “We’re winning, you know, and some days our system really worked. Some days [it] didn’t really work … but we had a good team … we had such a good team.”

We’re seeing the game … you get to see the pitchers, you get to see the catchers,” Beltran said of the system.
