Khabib Nurmagomedov talks about the 165-lb division at Eagle FC
Khabib Nurmagomedov explains what motivated him to create the 165-pound division in his MMA promotion, Eagle FC.
The Dagestani fighter has transitioned in amazing fashion from a fighter to an MMA promoter. Khabib Nurmagomedov is seeing great success in his promotion, Eagle FC as he looks to kick off his second event in the USA, Eagle FC 46. The main event will see two former UFC fighters, Kevin Lee and Diego Sanchez fight each other on March 11 in the newly created 165-pound division.
In the press conference ahead of the event, Khabib gives his opinion on why he wanted to create this weight class. As a fighter, Nurmagomedov was known to cut a lot of weight to fight in the lightweight division at 155 pounds. Therefore, he says he knows the benefit of having a weight class that goes between the lightweight and the welterweight division.
“It was a good decision” Khabib Nurmagomedov explains why the 165-pound division will benefit a lot of fighters
“When you become a promoter, when you have your own show, you can make decisions like this. It is very easy. I love this, you know,” said Khabib in the press conference. “And when I was a fighter when I was an active athlete, I really liked 165 [pounds]. It is like 135, 145, 155, 65, 75, you know.”
“A lot of fighters, they small at 170 and they cannot make 155. That’s why I think 165, it was like a good decision. Tomorrow night, in the main card, we gonna have two fights in 165. Kevin Lee-Diego Sanchez, and one more fight. We gonna see, we will see. We can change anything, anytime, we here, you know to give good opportunity to fighters,” said Khabib Nurmagomedov.
