Mike Perry on coming back to MMA

The former UFC Welterweight fighter, Mike Perry recently made an exit from UFC and joined Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. Perry managed to win only one out of his last five fights in UFC and all this led him to be cut from the promotion.

After a brawl broke down between the former “TUF” contender, Justin Lane and Perry at a BKFC event, these two were booked for BKFC Knucklemania 2. The event is supposed to take place in February of this year, and Perry would have a tough opponent in Lane. Perry went 1-4 in his last 5 UFC bouts, and even though he’s got a lot of experience in MMA, bare-knuckle boxing is really different from anything he has ever experienced.

In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, he talked about his future, and it looks like he isn’t looking to go back to MMA anytime soon, “It’s not like I’m training grappling right now – there’s no point to training grappling right now,” Perry said. “There’s maybe some clinch stuff, but no ground. I like how training is right now. I wear shoes all the time. I like my outfits. I try to wear stuff that I feel swaggy in.”

Perry is obviously getting a lot more than he was getting in the UFC, people are crazy for new ventures such as BKFC, a win over Lane would most probably put him in the title shot, and he mentioned it during his interview, “Obviously the offers have to match,” Perry said. “Maybe it’s another BKFC fight. I go out there and do what I’m supposed to against this guy; I should be fighting for the title. I should be a champion this year. So let’s do it.

Talking about coming back to MMA, he said, Let’s go. It’s 50/50. This is kind of built for me. In the UFC and when I did MMA, I would train grappling for hours at a time. I trained grappling, grappling, grappling. Then what would I do when I got in the ring? I just tried to punch people. So now it makes sense.”
