Jake Paul reportedly very close to finalize a deal with PFL for his MMA debut
Jake Paul(L), PFL(R)
Jake Paul wasn’t lying when he said last month before his bout with Tyron Woodley that he was looking to get into MMA. Now it seems that it is a reality as sources told MMAmania that the YouTuber turned boxer is in ‘advanced talks’ to make his MMA debut with PFL (Professional Fighters League).
Paul, a former wrestler at Division-1 straight out of Ohio is expected to be trained by Team Khabib at the AKA gym in San Jose, California.
Other than the PFL, Bellator MMA – who has an already existing partnership with Showtime Sports under whom Jake Paul has a contract – seems very much interested in signing ‘The Problem Child’ over to their promotion.
However, the 5-0 boxer is leaning towards Ray Sefo‘s PFL as it would seemingly help Paul retain more control of his brand as well as provide him the opportunity to utilize the promotion’s technological advancements in order to further increase his brand name and image.
His current deal with Showtime boxing is not going to interfere with his pending MMA deal and a decision is expected to be made any time in the next few weeks.
Watch: Jake Paul teasing MMA debut by revealing a video of him practicing leg kicks
Jake Paul has got his fans excited with his latest tweet – a video of him practicing leg kicks with a pad.
Sources close to MMAmania have confirmed that the boxer is in ‘advanced talks’ to make his debut in MMA with PFL and though Jake himself hasn’t confirmed the news, he uploaded a video of him practicing leg kicks at the Unbreakable Performance Center in West Hollywood, California.
Paul tweeted, “1stday training kicks. Doubted every step of the way. but kick down the doors of the doubters“, tagging MMA promotions Bellator MMA and PFL is an obvious poke at the UFC with whose President, Paul has been having a war of words and challenges.
A little while after his video was uploaded, PFL responded with a gif of Dwayne Johnson being impressed adding more clues to the contact between the fighter and the promotion.
Jake now looks ready to make that transition to MMA though it may seem that even though he might strike a deal with PFL, he may make his debut a little later as he had said previously that, “I’ve gotta go 10-0, 12-0 in boxing first and then I’ll hit that MMA fight.”
We shall find out what decisions will be made at the Jake Paul camp soon enough.
