Sean O’Malley‘s dreams of fighting Ryan Garcia in a boxing match might be too far-fetched. O’Malley has claimed he’s only two wins away from getting a green light from UFC for a boxing bout. The fighter will surely aim to replicate the Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather boxing bout in the future.
Mainstream MMA journalist Damon Martin recently made some points that go against Sean O’Malley‘s wishes. Martin mentioned that O’Malley might not get the same push as Conor McGregor. Moreover, Dana White and Oscar De La Hoya‘s relationship will provide a huge hurdle to overcome.
I think Suga Sean might be seriously disappointed. Conor got it because Conor's the unicorn. Plus a Ryan Garcia fight means dealing with Oscar De La Hoya. Can't imagine Dana would volunteer to run into that fire for anybody.Damon Martin via X
Ryan Garcia called out Sean O’Malley a few months ago for an MMA bout, and both exchanged a few tweets online. Now, after Garcia’s latest boxing victory, O’Malley mocked the boxer with a hilarious impersonation video. This has reignited the rivalry, and both fighters have verbally agreed to fight.
A boxing bout between Garcia and O’Malley is something that interests fight fans. Given both fighters’ eccentric nature, it isn’t much of a task to get the attention and promote the fight. However, UFC agreeing to co-promote the event with De La Hoya becomes the first major roadblock for the fight. Nevertheless, everyone has started to speculate about it.
Michael Bisping talks about Ryan Garcia vs. Sean O’Malley
Every time there is a discussion about a cross-platform fight in UFC, it generates a lot of attention among fight fans and experts. Many UFC fighters in the past have talked about participating in boxing bouts outside of UFC but in collaboration with the promotion. While most never got anywhere close to making it happen, Sean O’Malley is confident about his chances.
While discussing the rivalry and potential fight, UFC legend Michael Bisping shared his thoughts on what O’Malley must do to get UFC on board with the plan.
He's gotta go out there, he's gotta beat somebody like Merab and then probably someone like Umar Nurmagomedov. and that would be like three defenses. everytime he defends the belt just gets bigger and bigger.Michael Bisping via YouTube
Merab Dvalishvili is currently next in line to fight ‘Suga’ for the bantamweight title. Similarly, Umar Nurmagomedov remains one or two fights from achieving top contender status. Bantamweight is one of the deepest divisions in the UFC. As such, will O’Malley leaving to fight Garcia hold up the division? There are many questions that need answering before sorting out a date or announcement for Garcia vs. O’Malley.
