“I want Cyborg” 2-time Olympic champion Kayla Harrison spills her dream fight as she tests her free-agency

Cris Cyborg- Kayla Harrison

Kayla Harrison has been living well enough for a woman who has only 12 pro-fights in her MMA career, though undefeated so far. The 2-time Judo Olympic Gold Medalist was a two-time PFL tournament in the women’s lightweight tournament before she ended her contract to enter the pool of free agency. Harrison has all the hype behind her for the dominance she puts in her fights and therefore, she is right when she claims to be the hottest free agent out there.

Harrison is managed by sports management agency Dominance MMA founder Ali Abdelaziz, and her next promotion to fight on hasn’t been decided yet. Perhaps we will most probably see Harrison back to action next year. It’s a matter of time where meanwhile she spends her time giving interviews.

In an interview with TMZ, Harrison begins by talking about her roots in life and working hard through it. “I’ve worked my ass off my whole life,” says Harrison. “You know they see my MMA career. They don’t see the time when I was 6 years old to the time when I was 12 years old. Waking up at 5 am, working out before middle school. To be in 16 with 5 dollars in my bank account and working 50 hours a week at a hardware store and you know taking online classes and training full time,” she continues.

“You don’t see that grind that struggle, just the belief that someday it would pay off and I never in a million years thought it would pay off this way like with the financial abundance I’ve been given,” says Harrison who’s able to financially make a living while raising her kids through her ongoing tenure as a combat athlete.

“I can say that I am MMA’s one of the hottest free agents, you know for me that’s a cool thing, we will see what happens,” Harrison said with confidence. Finally, on her dream fight, Harrison immediately spilt the goals, “I think right now the fight is Cris Cyborg. I think Amanda [Nunes] is the greatest of all time for a reason, to get to that I still have to continue to climb and I think Cyborg is a step on that ladder, and also, she’s also one of the greatest fighters of all time… for me, it would be an honour to share the cage with her.”

Cris Cyborg has been the women’s featherweight champion in 3 premiere MMA promotions namely, Invicta FC, UFC and currently Bellator MMA. After losing her debut in 2005, Cyborg was undefeated for a period of 13 years until the great Amanda Nunes knocked her out in the UFC’s octagon to become the first women double champion in UFC and MMA history. Fun fact: Harrison and Nunes train in the same gym of the American Top Team centre in Florida.

“That’s the biggest compliment I can give to these women like ‘I think you are badass and I want to fight you, you know… it’s a funny way to show respect but I know what it is,” she concludes. Who would you like to see Kayla Harrison go against in a superfight?
