Don Frye is a retired MMA fighter with a record of 20 wins, nine losses, and a draw. He fought in the UFC and the Pride during his prime days. Frye had a background in wrestling and wrestled for Arizona State University. He also trained in boxing for a brief period before pursuing a career in MMA.

In a hilarious video, Don Frye mocked the fighters of the current generation for their excuses and attitudes. He said, “I’m Don Frye, the Predator. UFC’s two-time world champion back when men were men, not pretty boy champions who dyed their hair and god’s sake paint their toenail. We’d fight all night long. There were no rules, no weight limits, and no time limits.

Don Frye is not wrong about the current fighters. They pull out due to injury all the time. Recently, Dana White got mad at Aljamain Sterling after he pulled out from his scheduled bout against Sean O’Malley. Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson never happened because one of them always pulled out of the fight. Frye spoke about having to fight all night, and a victory leads them to another fight just 20 mins away.

The rule changes did play a part in changing the lifestyle of an MMA fighter. During his days, Frye had some of the best fights in the early days of MMA. He was also one of the first well-rounded fighters with impressive wrestling, striking, and cardio. He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2016.

PRIDE was the foremost promotion in MMA before UFC became the worldwide leader in mixed martial arts. In 2002, Don Frye fought against Yoshihiro Takayama at Pride 21. It was one of the greatest fights in MMA history.

Both fighters went blazing in from the first second. It was non-stop striking back and forth from the fighters. Takyama came from a pro-wrestling background but was a durable fighter. He took many brutal shots from Frye for the duration of six minutes.

However, in the end, Frye’s experience and skillset overpowered Takayama for a TKO finish in the sixth minute. It was the Fight of the Year in 2002. Unfortunately for Frye, it was also the beginning of the end of his combat sports career, as he went on to lose eight more times before retiring from MMA.
