Combat sports are not necessarily all fun and games, unlike other sports. Many sports, like rugby, show that players can suffer life-altering injuries, concussions, or even death. However, combat sports remain one of the most dangerous sports an individual can indulge in. Similarly, the world of MMA did not expect the unfortunate tragic death of a 16-year-old Russian MMA fighter.
Amateur MMA is a popular form of mixed martial arts in some parts of the world. Furthermore, amateur MMA competitions often use modified rules and protective gear to protect young fighters’ health and safety. However, the rules and regulations do not guarantee that they will be enforced, especially when there is little oversight. Unfortunately, this laxity in oversight led to catastrophic results during an MMA event in the Amur region of Russia.
According to MMA News, the 16-year-old MMA fighter competed in the Open MMA Cup of Rodina Sports Club. Subsequently, he tragically passed away in the hospital after undergoing intensive care following the loss. It is important to note that in this region, amateur MMA fighters between 16 and 18 are legally obligated to wear headgear.
Furthermore, according to reports, the young fighter, who tragically lost his life because of a kick to the head had asked the referee and event organizer if he could compete without headgear. Hence, the referee and the event organizer allowed this, leading to the tragic incident currently under investigation by the authorities.
