After leaving the UFC to test free agency, Anthony Pettis has hit a rough patch in his fighting carrier. He was scheduled to fight Steven Ray in a rematch at PFL 7 on August 5. Pettis lost the rematch between the two via Unanimous Decision.

Showtime is a former WEC and UFC champion. He has competed in UFC’s Featherweight, Lightweight and Welterweight divisions. He is the last WEC Lightweight champion before the promotion was incorporated into the UFC. After his contract with the UFC ended in 2020. Showtime decided to test free agency and later signed with the PFL.

After signing with PFL, Pettis has lost four of his five fights. His records currently stand at 25-14. The bout with Ray was a rematch of their first fight in June this year. Showtime lost that bout via a Twister submission. In the rematch, the former UFC champion looked good on the feet, throwing kicks. Although, he was badly outclassed on the ground.

Following his loss at PFL 7, Pettis revealed that he has broken both hands in the rematch. Going into the rematch the former UFC champion had promised the rematch would be different. However, Ray bested him in the rematch earning a UD win in the process.

Adding insult to injury, Showtime broke both his hands during the fight. After the loss, he took to his Instagram to inform everyone of the injury. He suffered fractures to his left hand and his right thumb. Sharing a photo of the X-ray, he wrote, “Left hand / Right Thumb Fractures Time for Surgery and to start the Recovery process.”

With the loss at PFL 7, Showtime now stands at 1-4 in his PFL carrier. Although, it is unclear if he will return for the 2023 season. Showtime has hinted that this could be his last year with the promotion. He has also stated that he could test free agency once again.

After his recent loss, it seems unlikely that we will see Pettis in the UFC octagon again. Along with fighting Pettis also has many other business ventures. He also manages young fighters along with fighting. With the injury, it’s unclear when Showtime will return to the octagon.
