BJJ star, Craig Jones, joined the featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski in his preparation for UFC 298. ‘The Great’ is to put his title on the line against Ilia Topuria. As such, in a recent training video posted on Volkanovski’s YouTube channel, Jones made a shocking revelation. He revealed being affected by Staph due to immune issues he had from HIV. Was it true?

In the video, the videographer questioned Craig Jones on why he wasn’t on the mats. He answered that he had contracted a staph infection and pointed at a bandage below his knee. However, in the following sentence, he said he contracted the infection due to having immune problems because of HIV. At this moment, the videographer knew Craig was kidding. So, he joined him in it and they continued the joke together. Here is what he said:

Staph, straight into freestyle, staph immediately. It might have something to do with the immune issues I have from HIV...Philippines is where I gave it to people but not where I recceived it. I received it in Perth.

Known for his grappling prowess, Craig Jones was also remembered for his quirky character. So, if one didn’t know about his character and took him seriously, they would’ve been concerned for him. Not to mention Alexander Volkanovski, the camp members, and all the past opponents of Jones since he joked about having HIV. However, fight fans loved him for this trait and always enjoyed the troll.

During the leadup, he trolled the Dagestani for their Sambo background and even claimed that ‘The Great’ would put Sambo to rest. As for his career, Jones is to compete in a grappling match this month against Philip Rowe in Pit Submission Series 2.

Craig Jones has signed another grappling match in March 2024

Craig Jones has a grappling match booked for Pit Submission Series 2 on 23 February. Now, he has signed another match just a couple of weeks later for UFC Fight Pass Invitational 6. As such, he is to compete against the former Bellator champion, Rafael Lovato Jr. on 03 March.

Rafael Lovato Jr. remained undefeated in his MMA career and earned numerous medals in the BJJ circuit. Notably, he won gold at the 2011 ADCC World Championship in the 92-kilogram weight division. As such, he could give Craig Jones a tough test.

Craig Jones was an innovative mind in the BJJ world with unconventional techniques from time to time. He has secured silver twice in the ADCC submission wrestling World Championship. Currently, with an impeccable BJJ record, he competed as a professional grappler for various promotions. As such, he is facing UFC middleweight Phil Rowe next in Pit Submission Series 2.
