Brendan Schaub, the MMA fighter turned podcast host, looked into his chances of fighting Jake Paul. While Paul and Schaub remained in a good relationship, he named a lucrative price to fight him. However, he believed the weight discrepancy would prevent the fight from ever happening.
On The Fighter and the Kid podcast, Brendan Schaub joined alongside his friend Bryan Callen. As such, he answered the hypothetical question of what it would take to fight Jake Paul. Here is what he said:
Yeah, I’d fight Jake even though he’s my boy. I’d fight him (for) $10 mil... 5 mil. (But) I’m too big. I’m 240. Jake’s not fighting me at 240. I mean, I’m at my fight weight right now - I’m 238. Not even in the conversations. I can’t do anything; I’m too big. I’m not in the sweepstakes. It’s fat shaming if you ask me. I’m the Lizzo of fighting.Brendan Schaub via The Fighter and the Kid
Further, Schaub expressed his disappointment in weighing heavy as he didn’t have lucrative competitive options in the recent burst of influencer events. The participants earned a huge amount, so Schaub felt left behind due to his heavyweight frame. ‘The Problem Child’ is fighting the legendary Mike Tyson at heavyweight. He weighed around 200 lbs. So, there might be a chance for Schaub.
Schaub last fought at UFC 181 in 2014. He retired from the sport after suffering back-to-back losses to Andrei Arlovski and Travis Browne. His retirement thoughts stemmed from Joe Rogan’s honest opinion about him. As such, the heavyweight fighter ventured into stand-up comedy and is now the host of many popular podcasts. Nonetheless, he kept the idea of a comeback fight open. Last year, he even teased a return against Derrick Lewis, but the matchup didn’t go through.
Brendan Schaub reposts Demetrious Johnson’s win against a 248lbs grappler
Amidst toying with the idea of fighting Jake Paul, who weighed significantly lower than himself, Brendan Schaub catches hold of Demetrious Johnson’s recent grappling tournament. ‘Mighty Mouse’ competed at a grappling event in the absolute weight division and secured a win over a grappling legend weighing around 250lbs. This proved weight didn’t factor much into grappling. As such, Schaub reposted the video and rekindled the idea of Johnson taking on the 260-pound Bradley Martyn.
Schaub acted as the middleman for Demetrious Johnson and Bradley Martyn. He instigated the thought of a potential fight between the two, which has grown to a surmount level. While the 260-pound bodybuilder thought he could beat the MMA legend with his weight advantage, Johnson proved him wrong with his latest grappling win. As such, Schaub hilariously made a joke about it on X. Here is what he said:
Tried to tell ya’ll. @BradleyMartyn is 260 thooooo.Brendan Schaub (Via X)
Demetrious Johnson’s win proved weight discrepancies didn’t matter as much if one is skilled. As such, Schaub could push forward with his aspirations to fight Jake Paul by instigating his ego. But, given their relationship, Schaub wouldn’t do it, and the matchup would just remain a flank of thought. However, Johnson vs. Bradley Martyn has the potential to come to fruition.
