Alex Pereira‘s impressive ascension from his kickboxing career in Glory to his MMA career in the UFC is remarkable. In his last fight against Jiri Prochazka, he was able to crown himself as the new UFC light heavyweight champion. Furthermore, after his fight, he called out his longtime rival, Israel Adesanya, to move up a weight class. Subsequently, UFC CEO Dana White has addressed the possibility of this potential trilogy fight.
Pereira has fought against Adesanya twice during their kickboxing careers, and Pereira won both fights. Then Pereira came to the UFC with the motivation to beat Adesanya yet again and progress his career as a fighter. Furthermore, he fought Adesanya once, became the UFC middleweight champion, and later lost the rematch.
Subsequently, Pereira wishes to fight Adesanya again in the light heavyweight division, and White commented on this by stating,
Alex moved up a weight class. I don't see Izzy moving up a weight class...If he wanted to move up and fight Pereira again, we'd probably do it.
In addition, White stated that Adesanya must move to the light heavyweight division and fight at that weight. Furthermore, after Adesanya won that match, he would be able to challenge Pereira for the UFC light heavyweight title.
Hence, White stated that the possibility of the fight happening is difficult since they are in different weight classes. However, if Adesanya were to move up the weight class, the UFC would make the trilogy fight happen.
Israel Adesanya’s live reaction to Alex Pereira calling him out
The UFC 295 main event ended with Pereira knocking down Prochazka and attacking him with repeated elbow strikes. Subsequently, the fight was stopped by the referee, and Pereira became the ninth UFC fighter to become a champion in two weight divisions.
Furthermore, Pereira is one of the few athletes to become champions in two weight classes in two different sports: MMA and kickboxing.
At the end of the fight, Pereira called out Adesanya to reignite their rivalry, but Adesanya did not appear interested. Adesanya reacted to Pereira calling him out when he went live on his YouTube channel while watching UFC 295.
Subsequently, during Pereira’s post-fight interview, ‘Izzy’ started laughing as he referred to Pereira’s UFC 287 KO loss against him.
Furthermore, Adesanya also posted an image of the time he knocked out Pereira on his social media. The caption of the post said, “Let it go,” which further hints that Adesanya is not accepting Periera’s challenge.
