The two former teammates, Ian Garry and Vicente Luque, once trained together at Kill Cliff FC in Florida. Furthermore, they are set to fight in a welterweight bout at UFC 296 on December 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. While they had stated that the fight was business and not personal, the beef between the fighters has escalated.

When their match was first announced, the two exchanged a friendly chat about their upcoming battle. However, a few weeks ago, the Irish fighter took to social media to mock ‘The Silent Assassin.’ The beef started when Luque posted a picture of his baptism ceremony on his Instagram account.

Furthermore, Luque had officially accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior and went through the baptism ceremony to officially become a Christian. Subsequently, Luque shared this emotional and important moment for him on his social media, which was later mocked by Garry.

Vicente Luque’s response to Ian Garry’s disrespectful trash talk

Garry commented on Luque’s important Instagram post, regardless of the religious significance and nature of the post. Garry commented that on December 16th he’ll be standing in front of Luque, tall blonde, and all-powerful.

As such, Garry threw shade at Luque and even referred to himself as God in his comment by calling himself all-powerful. This exchange came as a surprise since both fighters were cordial teammates and had a friendly interaction before this exchange. Furthermore, Luque spoke about this beef in an interview with Jacob Castro at ‘Parry Punch.’

Subsequently, Luque stated that it was an important post for him, and he felt disrespected. However, Luque wishes to be himself and does not believe in disrespecting his opponents or selling fights by trash-talking. Hence, Luque wishes to treat Garry with respect, even though Garry disrespected him on his Instagram.

Former teammate Gilbert Burns thinks that Ian Garry’s trash talk will backfire  

Luque and Gilbert Burns joined Kill Cliff FC together in 2017 and have a long-standing and close relationship. ‘The Silent Assassin’ has previously stated that Burns was the only fighter he wouldn’t consider fighting. Similarly, Garry trained at Kill Cliff FC in 2021 and 2022, where he got acquainted with Luque and Burns.

In 2023, Luque began training at Chute Boxe Diego Lima in Brazil, which is the home gym of Charles Oliveira. Furthermore, Luque is well-known for using trash talk before his fights, which he also did with Neil Magny. However, Burns feels that Garry’s tactic will backfire against him this time.

Subsequently, in an interview with MMA Junkie, Burns stated that whenever an opponent trash talks, it gets to another opponent. Hence, Burns believes that Garry will regret trash-talking with Luque because he thrives on such anger. In addition, Burns stated that Luque is known as the ‘Silent Assassin’ for a reason.
