Aleksei Oleinik is a veteran MMA fighter with over 70 professional bouts in his career. The Russian fighter has competed since 1996. He completed 27 years of combat in 2023. It is an achievement unlike any other. However, lasting this long in combat sports can make him vulnerable to devastating damage. Recently, at the age of 45, he competed against Oli Thompson.
Thompson knocked out Aleksei Oleinik with a clean right hand in the fourth minute of the first round. Oleinik’s performance showed the deterioration of the Russian fighter. At the age of 45, his physical body and prime self will start to deteriorate if it has not already. Oleinik may have reached the end of his MMA career.
Similar things happened to Tony Ferguson and Tyron Woodley. Ferguson and Woodley destroyed their competition during their prime days. However, in their mid-thirties, both Tony Ferguson and Woodley declined in their physical prowess. They found it difficult to compete against younger opposition. Woodley had no business losing to Gilbert Burns and Vicente Luque. Nevertheless, he could not keep up with Burns or Luque.
Similarly, Oleinik has lost five out of his last six bouts. Oli Thompson has not even fought in the UFC. If he lost to Thompson, who never competed in the UFC, he might have reached the end of his career. Oleinik is among the rarest fighters who competed in over 70 professional MMA fights.

Aleksei Oleinik left the UFC last year after losing a decision to Ilir Latifi. Even at the age of 45, he continued to compete. However, it did not go his way, as Oleinik lost via knockout to Oli Thompson. It was Oleinik’s 18th loss in his career and the fifth in his last six bouts.
