A recent MMA match took a hilariously unexpected twist. A fighter knocked down his opponent with a strong right hand. However, he faced an ironic DQ as he landed an illegal soccer kick to the face of the opponent.

The video of the unfortunate incident was uploaded on X by the popular X account, Home of Fight. In the video, the DQ’d fighter drops his opponent with a quick one-two. Unfortunately, in the heat of the moment, he would soccer kick his opponent to the face. The referee immediately stopped the fight and called it a DQ.

The rules are different in different promotions. For example, soccer kicks and knees to the head are legal in One Championship. However, it is illegal in the UFC and PFL. Moreover, in the PFL, elbows to the head are also illegal.

Aljamain Sterling became the UFC bantamweight champion after Petr Yan landed an illegal knee to the grounded Sterling. Sterling became the champion at UFC 259 with the DQ win. UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has only lost once in his career. It was a DQ loss to Matt Hamill. The loss in Jones’s record is disputed, as even Hamill stated on record that Jones should be given the victory.

Jones is currently in rehabilitation. He injured his pectoral tendon and was pulled out of the fight with Stipe Miocic at UFC 295.
