Islam Makhachev the current UFC lightweight champion has officially moved to the number one spot on the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings, passing Jon Jones. Initially, Makhachev was highly disappointed when he did not acquire the first spot after defeating Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 281. For a time, Volkanovski held the number one spot, and Makhachev was looking to overthrow him.

However, even after Islam Makhachev won against Volkanovski, he was still at number two, while Volkanovski kept his number one spot. Subsequently, Jones made his return by becoming champion and taking back the number one P4P spot from Volkanovski.

In addition, Makhachev had expressed his distaste for this matter because he felt he had earned the number one spot. In an interview with Daniel Cormier, Makhachev stated how absurd this decision was because Jones did not fight a champion.

However, Cormier, who is a former rival of Jones, stated that Jones’s swift victory over Ciryl Gane earned him the spot. Makhachev responded by stating that it doesn’t matter how fast Jones beats his opponent because he does not have any belts. Furthermore, Makhachev stated that several MMA fans and websites also agree with him and rank him as the number one.

Subsequently, Makhachev has now finally secured the number one spot after Jones had to withdraw from his fight. Furthermore, Jones had to withdraw from his fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 because of an injury.

Makhachev competes in the lightweight division of the UFC and is the current lightweight champion with two title defenses. Makhachev, the UFC lightweight champion, has risen to the number one spot in the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings. Furthermore, the update came after Jones suffered a knee injury and then pulled out of his UFC 295 main event.

Subsequently, Makhachev’s stellar performance against Volkanovski and his steady career were the main factors in this change. He has an impressive MMA record with a mix of wins by knockout, submission, and decision.
