Former UFC Title challenger Jake Shields has a “solution” to anxiety and depression among teenagers. Shields, a training partner of Nick and Nate Diaz, wants teenagers to fight once a year to counter the threat of anxiety and depression among teenagers. Shields has now followed the trend of retired MMA fighters using social media to give their thoughts on today’s issues.
Jake Shields reasons that doing cage fight in front of your peers would make your old worries feel silly. Shields refers to the insane pressure of performing in front of a crowd in MMA competitions. When it comes to depression, Shields believes that there is no time to be depressed when you are training for a fight. In teenagers, ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) can be countered when you get punched in the face. Shields believes one will become ultra-focused when hit in the face.
Shields, as an MMA fighter, was no slouch either. He had over 40 MMA fights and amassed a record of 33 wins and 11 losses. His notable victories include names like Demian Maia, Tyron Woodley, Robbie Lawler, Dan Henderson and Carlos Condit. He also challenged GSP for the UFC Welterweight Championship at UFC 129.

What your saying is simular to young men being forced to have military service.
Make your arguments, but people tend to do a better job when they actually want to be doing the work.
Forcing teens to partake in cage fights… That would be child endangerment and abuse.

I don’t think a yearly cage-fight would help the mental health crisis among teens.

It would probably lead to even more anxiety and depression, not to mention physical injury.
Certainly martial arts and its qualities (exercise, discipline, confidence, camaraderie) is helpful.
Imagine carrying around the shame of loosing. Being constantly picked on for the loss at school

Recently, retired MMA veteran Nate Marquardt took to Twitter to discuss a sensitive topic, homosexuality. His homophobic Twitter spree earned the wrath of the MMA community. Shields has followed a similar approach as well, using a transgressive mindset to find a solution to the problem that teenagers are facing.
Fans disagree with this take, but in the future, one can even have a conversation about the methods suggested by Shields if they can help improve mental health.
